I teach in a technical field. Why should I care about writing?

First, students can learn technical concepts more effectively by writing about them. In addition, students in technical fields or math are still likely to end up in professional positions that require communication skills—provided that they are able to write effective letters applying for such positions. In almost any job today, employees are expected to represent the employer in the e-mails they send, the proposals they write, or the web pages they construct. Employees who lack the ability to communicate clearly and correctly reflect badly on SSU.
