The Center for Teaching,
Learning and Academic Support, formerly the Center for Teaching and
Learning, was established in May 2001 in order to continue the legacy of
providing opportunities to improve the academic performance of the
university community. Funded under Title III, the Center's focus is to
advance the mission of the University and to strengthen the institution's
ability to provide academic excellence. The goal of the Center is to
provide opportunities for faculty to develop new and more effective
teaching practices and to provide additional opportunities for students to
become successful learners.
The Center for Teaching,
Learning and Academic Support will serve as the nucleus to develop and
maintain excellence in the academic community by
(1) Encouraging improved
teaching practices and classroom techniques through faculty
development activities;
(2)
Maintaining an essential resource library and advanced multimedia to promote the
scholarship of teaching;
(3) Providing
assistance developing e-courses;
(4) Providing assistance
through the ReWrite Connection to meet the professional needs of faculty
and the academic and developmental needs of undergraduate and graduate
students;
(5) Delivering alternative
instructional paradigms and learning lab experiences for students needing
additional assistance to achieve and to maintain academic success;
(6) Preparing Academic
Assistance students, Basic Studies students, and
students readmitted from academic suspension for the rigors of the
University through
holistic advisement until they transfer to
their major programs.
The Center for Teaching,
Learning and Academic Support will accomplish the preceding objectives
through the following components:
