Podcasting and Higher Education
Podcasting is the fastest growing medium of disseminating digital media via the web. Academics has been using it from its inception by recording their lectures to reach diverse learners.
A break through of reaching these digital age students came when Apple, Inc. offered a free service of hosting these lectures and other higher education related podcasts in its iTune library called iTunes U. Hundreds of colleges and universities are using this free and centralized service. As such, I am preparing to open a virtual campus of SSU @ iTunes U.
Note: There seems to be a misconceptions that one needs an iPod to utilized a podcasting service and this misconception lies in the name podcasting which is a portmanteau of iPod and broadcasting. Unless there is a need to view and listen the posdcast on the go, there is no need for iPods as it could be viewed on a computer that has iTunes, a freely available software from Apple, Inc.
