DISTINGUISHED
PROFESSOR
To
promote the scholarship of teaching, the Center supports the
Distinguished Professor Award, which is funded by Title III.
The successful candidate will receive a budget of $28,000 to
implement his/her approved plans to improve teaching and
learning on campus.
- Any full-time faculty
member is eligible to receive the award.
- Nomination for the
award can be made directly by the faculty member, by other faculty or administrators, or
by students.
- Nominated faculty
must provide the committee with the following:
- A summary of the
previous twenty-four (24) months' activities in vita form
- Student evaluations
for the previous academic year.
- The nominee's
previous year's performance evaluation
- Two (2) letters of
recommendation from either faculty or administrators.
- A letter to the
committee addressing the following:
- A definition of
teaching excellence
- Evidence that the
nominee has presented instruction consistent with his/her definition of teaching
excellence
- A description of any
innovative approaches to teaching that the nominee has used, along with any enhancements
planned for future use.
- Any use of technology
for enhanced teaching effectiveness previously used and/or planned for future use.
- Plans for conducting
symposiums, workshops, etc. consistent with requirements of the position.
These do
not need to be specific with regard to timing, but need to address issues such as
frequency of presentations and the expected scope of the activities.
