Center for Teaching, Learning & Academic Support
Advancing Teaching, Research, and Creative Endeavors

Individual Consultations

The Center offers individual consultations to faculty on issues related to teaching and learning. Because the route to excellent teaching varies with the individual instructor, the Center helps instructors to reflect on their own teaching as a means to improve student learning. Together, the consultant and the instructor will determine goals, identify strengths and problematic areas, and develop strategies to effect positive change.

Based on the analysis of the problematic areas, the consultant may recommend one or a combination of assessment mechanisms to derive at strategies to improve student learning. These mechanisms include classroom visits, student interviews, review of course materials, instructors self-assessment, student questionnaires, the teaching portfolio, Classroom Research, and service learning. Some problematic areas may require a short consultation aimed at a specific goal while others may require a more comprehensive assessment.

For an individual consultation, please contact Dr. Joan Maynor, Director, at 356-2178/2179 or email her at maynorj@savstate.edu.
