MISSION

Academic advisement in the Center for Teaching, Learning and Academic Support focuses on student development, progression, and retention of Learning Support students. Consequently, academic advisement is student-centered, responding to student needs and promoting continuous contact between students and their secondary and primary advisors. We realize that students who are satisfied with their academic advisement tend to persist in school and to complete their Learning Support and general education courses.

Students in the Center are assigned a secondary advisor responsible for assisting them with class schedules during registration. They are also assigned a primary advisor responsible for intrusive advisement such as the early alert/student tracking system for students with apparent academic problems. The primary advisor will connect the students to strategic academic resources to mitigate academic problems. In other words, advisement is more than selecting, adding, and dropping courses. Together, informed and student-centered faculty and staff advisors will help students to navigate through Learning Support and freshman level general education courses successfully and expeditiously. Our goal is to encourage and maintain excellence in academic advisement.
